MHC Cares Day 2024

As a member-driven organization, we rely on member-volunteers to help with certain tasks and projects so that we can keep our expenses down and dues low. The Board pays for the materials and all we ask for in return are many helping hands. With a good volunteer turnout, the workload is very manageable—and FUN!

We are not looking for a full-day commitment–just an hour or two or more if your schedule allows! And for those of you whose children need service hours, we are happy to sign off on the tasks completed by your child. There are also extra guest passes for those who come out and help! 

If you can’t make it to MHC Cares Day, please consider giving a donation to help with expenses. A donation of $75 or more is greatly appreciated. You can donate via our Donation page or you can drop off a check payable to MHC to any board member on the day or mail to our PO box (PO Box 30, Mount Vernon, VA 22121). In the Memo be sure to note that this is for MHC Cares Day 2024.

Playground area

Bring: gloves, shovel, wheelbarrow, rake, water to drink, sun screen 

• Wash playset
• Weed area 

Landscaping/grounds/parking lot

Bring: gloves, shovel, wheelbarrow, rake, pruners, leaf blower 

• Clean-out and mulch all beds starting with the front and moving to the back
• Trim/remove overgrown plants near front door area next to clubhouse patio
• Blow debris from back deck (all deck surface)
• Remove debris around pump room
• Shovel mud that’s spilled over curb and add brick pavers at curbside to prevent further spillage
• Sand and repaint and surfaces that need it 
• Look and see if enclosure that hides dumpster needs to be fixed repaired in any way

Clubhouse 

Bring: tools, cleaning supplies, hand-held vacuum

Inside:

• Vacuum couches
• Empty storage room
• Clean storage shelves in storage closet for event /social supplies
• Empty hallway closet
• Toss unneeded stuff 
• Clean “goop” off of any surface 
• Tighten bolts on tables
• Replace table feet
• Clean walls/baseboards
• Clean “goop” off light switches, and rail along wall and stoppers at baseboard
• Remove tape from walls in clubhouse/glue dots
• Clean tv screen
• Clean inside of refrigerator(s)
• Clean oven
• Type up directions on how to use any piece of equipment that the public will use
• Type up WiFi password for the current year on board for members

Outside:

• Wash outside/inside windows
• Clean gutters
• Pressure wash patio area
• Bleach clean garbage cans
• Spray for bugs around outside of clubhouse windows, doors and floor level
• Clean grills
• Clean gutters
• Clean furniture Deck and place out to dry
• Clean picnic tables and place out on grass
• Fix any broken furniture or toss
• Clean water bottle filling station

• Adjust water bottle filling station
